Siphile Buthelezi is the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Investment Committee of KZN Growth Fund, Managing Director and Head of Corporate/Commercial at Buthelezi Vilakazi Inc, Non-Executive Director of South African Airways (SAA), Chairperson of the Board of South African Airways Technical (SAAT), Co-Founder of RadioVybe, Secretary General of the Progressive Professionals Forum (PPF) and Chairperson of the Board of Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre. Siphile has served on various board committees including Remuneration, Human Resources and Nominations Committee (REMCO) and Long-term Turnaround Strategy Committee (LTTS).
Siphile attained his LLB degree (with distinctions) from the University of KwaZulu Natal (Westville Campus).
Siphile was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2009. Before the establishment of Buthelezi Vilakazi, Siphile practiced at Bowman Gilfillan, where he practiced in Banking & Finance, Corporate/Commercial, Construction and Engineering and Private Equity.
Siphile spent time in New York City. During his tenure in New York, he spent six months at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP (Law Firm), where he worked in their Credit and Capital Markets (Banking & Finance) Department. Davis Polk then seconded him to Morgan Stanley (Investment Bank) for another six months, before returning to South Africa in 2011 to rejoin Bowman Gilfillan. He specialises on a broad range of Banking and Finance Transactions, Secured Lending, Syndication, Project Finance, Acquisition Finance, Leveraged Finance, Structured Finance, Property Finance, Minerals and Resource Finance, High Yield Bond Transactions, Private Equity, Construction and Engineering, Property Law and General Corporate/Commercial Matters. In addition, Siphile’s experience includes the establishing of banks and representative offices of foreign banks in South Africa. Siphile also has a solid Commercial Litigation experience.
